Home Assistant is capable, but capability can turn into complexity. Most problems come from building too much before the foundation is stable.
Adding devices before defining routines
A common mistake is buying devices first and deciding what they are for later. Better results come from mapping routines: leaving home, coming home, evening lighting, ventilation, heating, guest mode, and alerts.
The device list should serve those routines.
Forgetting maintenance
Home Assistant needs backups, update discipline, clear naming, and a basic recovery plan. Without that, small changes can become stressful.
A maintainable system can still be advanced. It just needs structure before cleverness.
