KNX vs Home Assistant
KNX and Home Assistant are not direct replacements for each other. KNX is a wired building-control standard. Home Assistant is a flexible software control layer. In the right home, they complement each other.
Where KNX wins
KNX is attractive when you are renovating, building, or already opening walls and planning electrical work. It gives a stable wired foundation for functions that should work for many years.
The tradeoff is that KNX should be planned properly and usually costs more upfront than wireless consumer systems.
Where Home Assistant wins
Home Assistant is flexible and can connect a wide range of devices without requiring a full renovation. It is often the fastest way to unify existing systems in an apartment or already finished villa.
The tradeoff is software maintenance. Updates, backups, and integration changes need to be handled with care.
