Smart home guide
When Home Assistant is overkill
Home Assistant is not automatically the right answer. For some homes, it adds maintenance and complexity without solving enough real problems.
Good reasons to keep it simple
If you only need a few lights, basic schedules, and simple app control, Apple Home, Hue, Plejd, or another focused system may be enough.
The best smart home is the one the household understands and trusts. Sometimes that means fewer moving parts.
When the extra layer becomes useful
Home Assistant starts to make sense when there are multiple ecosystems, privacy requirements, custom automations, local control needs, or devices that need to work together across brand boundaries.
A sensible plan can leave room for Home Assistant later without forcing it into the first phase.
